hydroxypropyl starch ether is mainly used as a thickener in mortar to improve the sag resistance of mortar, reduce the adhesion of wet mortar, extend the opening time, etc.
It is usually used in combination with hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. Hydroxypropyl starch ether is cost-effective and can partially replace more expensive additives. Low dosages can provide a good thickening effect, improve the workability of dry-mix mortars, prevent knife sticking, and improve adhesion to the substrate.
The recommended addition amount of HPS is 0.1%-0.2% (0.05-0.1), and the hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) should be reduced by about 0.1%-0.2% (0.1) based on the original formula. That is, 20%-30% of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) in the original formula is replaced by HPS, which can improve the construction performance and reduce the production cost by about 10-20%.
