Tantalum powder- Application status of tantalum metal
In the field of 3D printing medical implants, there are different materials to choose from. Representative materials include titanium alloy, tantalum alloy, magnesium alloy, etc. Compared with traditional titanium alloy orthopedic implant materials, tantalum metal has obvious advantages in bioactivity and wear resistance. Tantalum alloys have good biocompatibility, high corrosion resistance, high strength and elastic modulus. However, there are certain challenges in additive manufacturing, including high cost and density, and stress shielding issues. In general, tantalum alloys are suitable for use as small implant components, porous implants, and implant coatings to enhance osseointegration properties.
Tantalum powder has broad prospects in medical 3D printing, but as a difficult-to-process metal material, tantalum has a high melting point and is difficult to process. Tantalum's impurity removal and purification, ingot preparation, hot forming, alloying and other links all have extremely high technical requirements. Without long-term technical accumulation, it is difficult to develop high-level products. At the same time, different customers have different needs for the physical properties, chemical impurities, and organizational structure of tantalum, which requires relevant companies to conduct innovative research and development of metallurgy and manufacturing technologies.
